Lando Buzzanca
Born: Aug 24, 1935
Palermo, Sicily, Italy
Date of death: Dec 18, 2022 (87)
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia Gerlando Buzzanca (born August 24, 1935 in Palermo) is an Italian comedy actor. He left high school in Palermo when he was 16 years old, and moved to Rome to pursue his dream of becoming an actor. In order to survive, he took many jobs: waiter, furniture mover, and a brief appearance as a slave in the film Ben-Hur. In his long career he often interpreted the role of the average Italian immigrant from southern Italy, who slowly began to enjoy moderate success during the years of the Italian economic miracle. His films showcased all the freshness of the 1960s, the 1970s and the heavier transition to the 1980s, focusing on the common life in several Italian cities such as Rome, Verona or Milan, balanced between personal happiness and professional achievement. Buzzanca often interpreted roles of a subordinate white collar worker, with a heavy vein of machismo, as a frustrated employee who tries to redeem his dull existence with his virility. He became famous for his role in the film Il merlo maschio, (The Male Blackbird), where in a provincial environment of cultural importance, the philharmonic orchestra of the Arena di Verona, he vents out his own frustrations, indulging into candaulism when he induces his bride to expose her naked body in the middle of a bridge in Verona. Some critics, in a lighter vein, have defined Buzzanca as a "Homo eroticus": a human being halfway between Homo erectus and Homo sapiens, who risked extinction in the 1970s because of the harsh struggle with feminism activists. Today, even though much less so, this male type is still found among Italian males. Buzzanca's fame is greater in foreign countries than in his native land, and in countries as France, Japan, Greece, Israel, Spain and Switzerland he is a renowned international stereotype of the Italian provincialotto, elegant, naif, always causing mischief, and not obtaining anything from it. Donald Douglas

Edinburgh, Scotland, UK
Date of death: Dec 31, 1945 (40)
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia Donald Douglas (24 August 1905 – 31 December 1945) was a Scottish actor in films and on radio. Douglas appeared in over 100 films from the late 1920s to the 1940s including The Great Gabbo (1929), Life Begins (1932), Men in White (1934), Madame X (1937), Cheers for Miss Bishop (1941), Now, Voyager (1942), Little Tokyo, U.S.A. (1942), Tall in the Saddle (1944), Murder, My Sweet (1944), Show Business (1944) and Gilda (1946). Douglas was a one-man cast on The Black Castle. He played all roles in each episode and was the announcer. A review of The Black Castle in the trade publication Billboard complimented Douglas's handling of multiple roles in the drama. Bob Francis wrote: "Except for the fact that he is inclined to ham the wizard, making the role often seem more silly than awesome, Douglas puts on a good 15 minutes. His vocal changes are sharp and clear, and his characterizations come over effectively." He also had the title role in John Steele, Adventurer and played Chief Jake Workley in Scattergood Baines. He was also a member of the cast of Kelly's Courthouse. Douglas died on 31 December 1945 in Los Angeles, California, aged 40, after emergency surgery for a ruptured appendix. He is interred in the Forest Lawn Memorial Park Cemetery in Glendale, California.
