Plot

Hortense Laborie, a cook from Périgord, is stunned to learn that the President of the Republic has requisitioned her to take charge of preparing his personal meals. But upon her arrival in the kitchens of the Élysée Palace, the all-male staff, warmed by chef Pascal Lepiq, makes no secret of their hostility. Renowned for her mastery of authentic regional cuisine, Hortense, a fifty-something with a strong character, refuses to be pushed around and gets to work. Much to the delight of the President, who makes no secret of his appreciation. But when his health falters, dietitians and civil servants come to poke their noses into his cooking.
