From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia Vincent Korda (22 June 1897 – 4 January 1979) was a Hungarian-born art director, later settling in Britain. Born in Túrkeve in the then Austro-Hungarian Empire, he was the younger brother of Alexander and Zoltan Korda. He was nominated for four Academy Awards, winning once, for The Thief of Bagdad (1940). He died in London, England. He is the father of writer and editor Michael Korda.

In that time he worked on such films as Leo McCarey’s The Awful Truth (1937), Howard Hawks’ South American set Only Angels Have Wings (1939) and his rapid fire comedy classic the following year His Girl Friday, most of the Blondie B-movies, Alexander Hall’s turn of the century fantasy Here Comes Mr. Jordan (1941) and Charles Vidor’s lush Chopin biopic, A Song to Remember in 1945. Part of a new generation of Colombian filmmakers, he developed his interest in film on his own, and in 2006 founded Contravía (“Another Way,” in English), a production company to develop art house films in his country, where there is not a huge film industry. His first feature, Crab Trap (2010), won several awards, including the FIPRESCI prize at the Berlin Film Festival that year.

He studied at the Dún Laoghaire College of Art and Design and the Royal College of Art in London, England. He directed the 2000/2001 Metz alcopop advert "Forrest" featuring the Judderman. In 2001 he directed the "Deep" music video for the band Nine Inch Nails. He also directed the "Epic" advert for the 2006 AIB Ryder Cup. The advert featured a version of "Lux Aeterna" from Requiem for a Dream, adapted by Fiachra Trench. He suffers from the rare Ménière's disease.
